|||No arrests had been made after a suspected vigilante attack in Makhaza, Cape Town, at the weekend, Western Cape police said on Monday.
Captain Frederick van Wyk said police found the burned body of a man in an open field behind a supermarket in Khayelitsha on Saturday morning.
The man had been stoned and assaulted with various objects before being set alight.
It was not immediately clear what crimes the man was suspected of committing.
Van Wyk said acts of vigilantism would not be tolerated.
“We will not allow the community to take the law into their own hands, and we cannot allow the public to punish suspected criminals,” he said. – Sapa
