An elderly man has drowned at the Dalebrook tidal pool in Cape Town.
|||Cape Town - An elderly man drowned at the Dalebrook tidal pool in Cape Town, the city's Disaster Risk Management Centre said on Monday.
The centre's head Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said the man began to struggle in the water and was gasping for air, before friends and bystanders pulled him out of the tidal pool.
Once on shore, the man began vomiting and then died before 2pm on Sunday.
The incident happened at the tidal pool situated between St James and Kalk Bay.
Solomons-Johannes said people at the tidal pool told officials the man was drunk before he went into the water.
The man was approximately 60-years-old. He was apparently homeless and used to sleep behind the Wynberg Magistrate's Court.
An inquest docket has been opened. - Sapa
