A teenage boy has been shot dead and his friend wounded in what police say could have been a gang-related attack.

Provincial police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said the two boys were shot at about 10.45pm in Joan Street on Friday.
Van Wyk said police were told the shooting happened when the two boys went to a shop.
“While they were inside the yard, shots were heard being fired. The 15-year-old was shot in the left eye and died at the scene due to the extent of the injury he sustained. The 17-year-old victim was shot in both legs and right arm, and transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
“Circumstances and motive for this incident are unknown at this stage, but the possibility that it can be gang-related will be investigated. A murder and attempted murder case were registered for investigation. no arrests have been made as yet,” said Van Wyk.
The 15-year-old boy is the second teen to die in a shooting-related incident in Cape Town in less than a week.
Last Sunday, 17-year-old Mogamat Davids was shot dead and a 20-year-old man was wounded in Kalksteenfontein in what Davids’s family believed to be a gang-related shooting.
Meanwhile, police said they have arrested 40 suspects for drug possession over the weekend.
A 33-year-old Mitchells Plain man was arrested on Friday for possession of 15 units of heroin and a dagga joint.
On Saturday, two men – aged 43 and 59 – were arrested in Cedar Close in Westridge for possession of 15 joints and one crushed mandrax tablet.
On the same day, a 47-year-old suspect was arrested after police found 13 dagga joints in a house on Annette Crescent in Lentegeur.
“All suspects will appear on Monday (today) in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate Court on charges relating to possession of drugs,” said Van Wyk.
