Cape Town - The case of four men accused of killing Cape Town gay night club owner Bruno Bronn was postponed in the Western Cape High Court on Friday.

Frederick Willem John Coetzer, 36, Fareez Allie, 29, Achmat Toffa and Kurt Erspin, 35, appeared before Judge President John Hlophe for their third pre-trial conference.

State advocate Carine Theunissen said a legal aid lawyer had come on board for Toffa, after his private lawyer William Booth withdrew because of a lack of funds.

“One can never draw blood from stone. Will you be ready by next week?” Hlophe asked new lawyer Deana Haldenby.

Haldenby said two weeks was more realistic.

The four would appear again on November 9 for their last pre-trial conference. Hlophe said their trial date was set down for November 19.

Bronn, 49, was found dead on the floor of his home on Ocean View Drive in Sea Point with his hands tied in front of him on February 7. He also had marks on his neck. According to the indictment, he was strangled and died as a result of suffocation.

The document further stated Bronn was threatened with a gun or overwhelmed by the men and then robbed.

The stolen items listed were a silver BMW 330, a laptop and carry bag, a Nokia cellphone, a briefcase containing documents, a flatscreen TV, a Tag Heuer watch and a number of perfume bottles.
