Cape Town - The family of the Welsh tourist who died on a Hout Bay charter boat plans to sue the vessel's owners, it was reported on Monday.

“We're planning on some sort of action because we haven't even had an apology from the owners of the Miroshga. We're very upset about that,” Peter Hyett's daughter Helen told the Cape Times.

She said she had seen the preliminary report into the Cape Town accident, which detailed shortcomings in maintenance and crew competency.

Southern Ambition Marine Safaris would be the target of legal action as it was the company which ran the Miroshga.

The Miroshga overturned in Hout Bay on October 13 with 39 people on board. Hyett, 64, and crew member John Roberts, 37, drowned.

“The United Kingdom coroners launched an inquest into my father's death… They'll be asking for all the police reports from South Africa,” Helen Hyett was quoted as saying.

The Cape Town disaster risk management centre confirmed it had received an e-mail regarding the inquest. It would consult with the British High Commission. - Sapa
