The body of a man, believed to be a missing hiker, was found down a gorge in the Bainskloof mountains.
|||Western Cape - The body of a man, believed to be a missing hiker, was found down a gorge in the Bainskloof mountains on Tuesday morning, the Western Cape health department said.
Emergency services spokeswoman Keri Davids said a volunteer rescue team found the body before 8am, on the Wellington side of the Bainskloof Pass.
“We are assuming this is the missing guy. We have sent a technical rescue team down to retrieve the body.”
The discovery followed three days of intense searching across the mountain range, with between 30 and 79 people combing about 500 hectares of rocky and steep terrain.
The man, 28, from Botswana was staying with friends at a lodge on Eerste Tol and went for a walk around 6pm on Saturday. He did not take a backpack or refreshments with him. According to the authorities, the man was an experienced hiker. - Sapa
