A boy is missing and presumed drowned at Macassar Beach near Strand in Western Cape.
|||A boy was missing and presumed drowned at Macassar Beach near Strand, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said on Wednesday.
Three eye-witnesses saw that the boy, aged between 11 and 13, was in trouble in the water before he disappeared, said NSRI Strandfontein station commander Mario Fredericks.
“An extensive sea, air and shore search has revealed no sign of the youth and police divers are continuing with an ongoing search operation,” he said.
The child apparently arrived at the beach on his own with a tractor tyre tube.
It was not known where he was from. Only his clothes and the tube were found on the beach, said Fredericks.
Police had opened an inquest docket and were trying to track down the boy's family. – Sapa
