A man was shot dead outside a convenience store in Atlantis on the West Coast.
|||Western Cape - A man was shot dead outside a convenience store in Atlantis on Wednesday.
The man, in his 30s, was sitting in a car parked outside the shop on Grosvenor Road about 2pm when he was shot.
The gunman fled and no one had been arrested, police said.
“The motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspects fled the scene and the matter is still under investigation,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Andre Traut.
Atlantis ward councillor Barbara Rass said she had received texts from people telling her about the incident.
“The young man lived in my ward but was shot on the other side, in a different ward.
“I spoke to the mayor and we will be meeting on Friday with the safety MEC to try and have an intervention in Atlantis.”
Rass said there had been a number of shootings in Atlantis recently – two in her ward last year – and that this was not acceptable.
“We don’t know why they happen and we need to do the intervention at this stage.”
