For the families of two missing Western Cape children, on Wednesday proved to be a day of contrasts as one was reunited while the other is anxiously waiting for answers after police took a man in for questioning.

A man from Paarl is in police custody following the disappearance of six-year-old Asemahla Ntsabo four days ago while playing with a group of children around the corner from her house in Mbekweni.

Her mother, Ntombizodwa Ntsabo, 27, said the suspect was known around the area and sometimes stayed in a shack not far from theirs. A resident had seen him on Sunday afternoon walking with Asemahla and the police had been looking for him since then.

“He finally showed up today and we made sure he stayed until the police arrived.”

The suspect was held overnight at the Mbekweni police station and would be questioned on Thursday, police said. He has not been charged.

Meanwhile, despair turned to joy for another family when eight-year-old Likho Gosani was reunited with them and friends in Nyanga on Wednesday after being found in Delft.

His

mother, Bongiwe Gosani, 33, said she had already given up hope when the police called.

Likho disappeared on Monday on his way home from Walter Teka Primary School, which is five minutes from their home on Sine Avenue, Old Location.

Gosani and Likho’s father, Thabile Majova, 36, searched throughout Monday night.

Police said they had received a phone call from a social worker in Delft who said Likho had been brought to her by a group of children on Monday afternoon.

The social worker took Likho to the Delft police station because they assumed he was from the area. No one knew who he was and he spent the night in a safe house.

He was examined and found to be unharmed.
