|||Cape Town - A Cape Town woman received the birthday present of her life when she survived a car crash about 150m down a cliff in Clifton at the weekend.
Karen Drew, 33, of Tableview, was on her way to see a friend on her birthday in Camps Bay on Sunday when her car veered off Kloof Road and landed between the cliff and a house.
ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said Drew had a narrow escape with only moderate injuries after she lost control of her car.
“When emergency personnel arrived on the scene they found the driver had already climbed out the car,” Banks said.
“They assessed her and treated her for suspected neck and back injuries and possible broken ribs. She was taken down to the road and to hospital.”
The plunge happened at 7.30am on Sunday. Drew’s father Barry said he received the call at about 8.30am notifying him of his daughter’s accident.
“You only realise how miraculous and lucky she was when you see how far the fall was,” said Banks.
Barry Drew said his daughter managed to get out of the car through the back, and rang the friend she was planning to visit.
“She is the eldest of four and it happened on her birthday.

Last month, in a similar crash, 20-year-old Aurora Marco-polous survived after veering off a cliff in Bakoven.
