London - The family of murdered honeymoon bride Anni Dewani made an appeal for “closure” after being told an extradition decision on their former son-in-law would be made in three weeks time.

Her uncle, Ashok Hindocha, spoke just minutes after the end of a four-day hearing into whether Shrien Dewani should be returned to South Africa to face trial for murder.

Speaking on the steps of Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Hindocha, with Anni’s father Vinod by his side, said: “The battle still goes on. On July 24 we will hear from Judge Riddle again and we just hope we will get closure for our daughter. We miss her a lot.”

Chief magistrate Howard Riddle must decide whether Dewani, 33, is fit enough to be sent back.

His defence team have consistently argued that his depression and post-traumatic stress disorder makes him unfit to be sent to South Africa and that he was better off at his Bristol mental hospital.

However, the four-day hearing was told his mental health had “significantly” improved and that the South African authorities had given comprehensive assurances that he would be sent to the general unit at Valkenberg Hospital in Cape Town if needed.

Dewani was given permission to miss this week’s hearing. His family had been in court all week.
