Four men appeared in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the slaying of gay night spot owner Bruno Bronn.

In the dock were John Frederick Coetzee, Fareez Allie, Achmat Toffar, and Kurt Erisp.

They appeared before magistrate Jasthree Steyn, who postponed the matter until February 20. They remain in custody in the Sea Point police holding cells.

The four are accused of murdering Bronn, owner of the Bronx nightclub, in central Cape Town, last week.

Bronn was found on his back on the floor with his hands tied in front of him. He had marks on his neck.

At their second appearance on February 20, the four are expected to launch a combined bail application.

The defence team told the court that Coetzee had admitted to at least three previous convictions – two for possession of drugs and one for assault.

Allie, Toffar, and Erisp had no previous convictions but Erisp had a pending case in which he was charged with assault, the court heard. – Sapa
