Mystery surrounds the horrific find as an unidentified man’s decapitated body was left sprawled across the railway line at Elsies River station during the early morning rush.
Train travellers were shocked to discover the 56-year-old man’s head lying between the tracks under one of the carriages.
The rest of his body lay slumped on the outside of the tracks.
He was dressed in a black T-shirt and light blue jeans with no shoes.
While police are still investigating the gruesome incident, a witness says he saw the body’s final twitches before the man died.
Ashley Fortuin, a commuter on the 8.24am service from Kraaifontein to Cape Town says he got off the train at Elsies River station where people were crowding around the corpse.
“His body was still moving when I got off the train but it stopped a few seconds later,” Ashley says.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel André Traut says cops are still investigating the circumstances of the grisly death but they do not suspect foul play.
