“It’s unbelievable,” said mayco member for safety, JP Smith, who had been on the N2 and R300 Wednesday morning handing out pamphlets warning pedestrians to stay clear of freeways.
Smith said a Ghost Squad traffic team had noticed the taxi driver driving recklessly in Nyanga and had tried to pull him over but he refused to stop. They chased the taxi all the way to Vanguard Drive.
When they managed to stop it, the officers tried to arrest the driver, but he “lashed out violently, bit two officers and punched another in the face”, Smith said. - Cape Argus
