Two teenage boys are being kept at a place of safety under the direction of the Bishop Lavis Magistrate's Court after they allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old boy to death, Cape Town police said on Wednesday.

Lt-Col Andrè Traut said the boys, also 16, were arrested after a Valhalla Park pupil was killed in a school yard argument on Tuesday.

They were assessed before the court procedure because they were minors. The victim was named as Raylin Fortuin, a grade nine pupil at Beauvallon Secondary School, provincial education MEC Donald Grant's spokeswoman Bronagh Casey said.

Traut said a third 16-year-old involved in the argument was being treated in hospital and would make a court appearance later. - Sapa
