A man died and 16 people were treated by paramedics after a taxi collided with a truck in Parow.
|||A man died when a taxi collided with a truck in Parow on Monday, and in Malmesbury, a woman had to be airlifted after her right leg was partially amputated in a crash.
Sixteen people were treated by paramedics at the Parow accident scene.
ER24 spokesman Andre Visser said the crash happened on Voortrekker Road after 11am when a minibus taxi collided with the side of large delivery truck at speed. One of the passengers died on the scene.
Visser said a woman was found trapped by twisted metal and rubber in the taxi and was extricated using the Jaws of Life.
She was treated for fractures to her legs, and cuts and bruises to her back, neck and chest, and airlifted to hospital.
The Malmesbury accident occurred on the R44 when two vehicles collided at an intersection.
Visser said the cause of the collision was unclear, but one of the vehicles left the road after the initial impact.
“When paramedics arrived at the scene they found that the driver of the one vehicle, a female aged 39, had sustained a serious injury to her right leg in the form of a partially amputated foot. Due to the injuries sustained and the distance to the nearest appropriate medical facility, on-scene paramedics promptly dispatched the medicopter to the scene,” he said.
The woman received advanced life support treatment at the scene before being airlifted to Milnerton Medi-Clinic for further medical care.
“The second vehicle had two occupants, both tourists. They received treatment at the scene for scrapes and bruises before being transported to a hospital by ambulance,” he said. - Cape Argus
