The head of a Cape minstrels' association has appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on charges of drunken driving and possession of a firearm and tik, according to a report on Thursday.

The Cape Argus reported that Cape Town Minstrels' Carnival Association chairman Richard 'Pot' Stemmet appeared alongside Shahiel Julius on Tuesday following a police raid on a house in Steenberg on Sunday.

The case was postponed until November 8, when the blood-alcohol test reports were expected to be ready.

In a statement on Monday, police said they had arrested a “well-known drug high-flyer” during the raid. They said Stemmet apparently pulled up at the house, but drove off when he saw the police. He and Julius were apprehended soon after. - Sapa
