|||A youth accused of shooting dead a three-year-old boy in Manenberg, Cape Town, handed himself over to detectives on Wednesday, Western Cape police said.
“The 18-year-old suspect... handed himself over to detectives at the Manenberg police station with his lawyer, at about 6.30pm,” said Warrant Officer November Filander.
The child was found with a bullet wound to the head on a bed in a house on Rhone Walk earlier on Wednesday.
A while before the shooting, police searched a neighbouring house after a tip-off that illegal firearms and ammunition were kept there. They found nothing and left.
“Shortly thereafter they (police) received a call of a shooting incident in the same street,” said Filander.
Police were told that an 18-year-old neighbour shot the boy in front of his mother after accusing her of calling the police who searched his house.
The youth would appear soon in the Athlone Magistrate's Court, Filander said. - Sapa
