A man who was shot and seriously wounded outside the Western Cape High Court is in a stable condition.
|||A man who was shot and seriously wounded outside the Western Cape High Court was in a stable condition, Groote Schuur Hospital said on Wednesday.
“He's currently stable in our intensive care unit area,” spokesman Alaric Jacobs said.
The man, 35, known only as William, had been walking out of the court with his nephew at 11.30am on Tuesday when an unidentified man shot him in the neck.
The gunman threw down his .38 revolver in full view of legal workers and the public before fleeing on foot. He was still at large.
The Cape Times reported that the shooter apparently tried turning the gun on the nephew, Winston van der Leer, but it jammed.
Van der Leer was in the High Court on Tuesday with five other men for the murder of Cameron Philander and Liezel Saunders in Heideveld on July 18, 2010. His co-accused are Ryan Abrahams, Virgil Adendorff, Clint de Hahn and Eugene Williams. According to the newspaper, they are alleged to be members of the Junky Funky Kids gang. – Sapa
