Cape Town - The son of Gauteng police chief Mzwandile Petros has been granted leave to appeal against an 18-year jail term for rape, Beeld reported on Tuesday.

The newspaper reported that his son Lwazi “Blacks” Mzito, 23, recently appeared with Lubabalo “50 cent” Fongoqa and Daluxolo “Ntulo” Jabu in the Khayelitsha Regional Court.

Magistrate Robert Matshikwe granted their application for leave to appeal and the matter would be heard in the Western Cape High Court.

A date had not yet been set.

Matshikwe reportedly denied Mzito's application for bail in the meantime and all three remained in custody.

Mzito would challenge this bail decision.

According to the report, the trio were found guilty earlier this year on two counts of gang-rape of a 17-year-old girl on April 5, 2008.

Mzito reportedly kidnapped the girl, took her to Jabu's house and raped her.

She was later taken to a shack in the back garden of Jabu's house, where the three drank and raped her repeatedly.

Three other accomplices were apparently never caught. - Sapa
