Witnesses say the huge advertising board nearly flattened the VW Golf it landed on and fortunately no one was inside the ill-fated vehicle at the time.
The impact caused the roof of the car to collapse and the back wheels to blow out.
A Toyota Tazz parked next to the Golf escaped without any damage.
The freak incident occurred at Cape Gate Mall at about 11am on Monday.
A towtruck driver tells the Daily Voice a truck hit the board as it was passing by it, causing it to fall over.
“Luckily there was no one in the car or they could have been killed,” says the shocked man, who wishes to remain anonymous.
“There should be a sign up warning truck drivers about low hanging signs.”
The driver of the car was in the mall at the time of the incident.
But the owner could not have been too impressed after finding the massive advert for a relaxing holiday on top of their car.
